Reading Bee Competition
A Reading Bee Competition Is Coming in October, 2001
Why?
Our goal is to join the Reading Initiative by helping students as well as parents become aware of the importance of reading in the home.Who can participate?
Second grade students throughout the metroplex in private, public and home schools will be invited to participate in the first Reading Bee during the 2001-2002 school year. This will be similar to the Spelling Bee; there will be a classroom champion, a school champion, district level champion, and finally a Metroplex Area Champion. What will the competition involve?
The students will be asked to read a passage/s that will be judged on fluency, rate and accuracy as well as comprehension of the passage read. How are you going to make students and parents aware of the competition and reading focus?
Starting this summer with the collaboration of others (libraries, schools, community centers, businesses etc.) a reading campaign will be in place to involve all students in reading activities. The students will be given incentives based on the number of books read and reading activities they are involved with that yield positive results.
