How to Enroll
Students new to the district
should contact their neighborhood school principal as soon as
they are settled in Fort Worth. Fall registration, held at individual
schools, usually begins in August, although pre-registration
for kindergarten is available at some schools in the spring.
A child must be age 5 by Sept. 1 to enter kindergarten and age
6 by Sept. 1 to enter first grade.
Prekindergarten Information
To find out what school your
child will attend, call the Communications Office at 871-2453.
To register, parents must bring
the child's birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization
records to the school. Proof of residence is also required. Parents
whose first-grader has previously attended kindergarten should
also bring his or her report card.
Students transferring into the
district from another district or state will need their report
cards and immunization records. Contact the individual school
about registration for transfer students.
For more information, contact
the school principal.
Transfers
A student's residence determines
his/her home school attendance zone. A student is expected to
attend school in the attendance area in which he/she resides.
A student may transfer to other schools in the district, depending
on educational needs and in accordance with board policy, by
working through a process which will include both school principals
and central administrative staff.
ELEMENTARY TRANSFER PROCEDURES
- No transfer will be granted
until after the fifth (5th) instructional day of the new school
year.
- The home school will grant the
transfer after calling the receiving school and determining available
space. If space is available, the home school will withdraw the
student(s) and attached the signed Transfer Form to the withdraw
form.
- The parent will bring the forms
and student(s) to the receiving school.
- The receiving school will sign
the Transfer Form and send copies to the designated places.
- A transfer will be good for
kindergarten through grade 5.
- The waiting period applies to
siblings who have already been granted a transfer.
- Exceptions cannot be made for
staff member's children.
- Transfers should not be granted
if the result would negatively impact either school. (i.e., the
home school would lose a teacher or the receiving school would
be out of compliance.)
SECONDARY TRANSFER PROCEDURES
- Parent/guardians may request
a transfer from the home school principal*. Parents/guardians
may call the home school principal the schedule a meeting to
request a transfer during the month of March. The deadline for
the completion of transfers is March 30.
- Parents of grade 5 and grade
8 students should apply to the principal of the respective home
middle or high school.
- The parent/guardian will need
to take a copy of the student's most recent report card to the
meeting with the home school principal.
- Both the home school principal
and the principal of the school to which the transfer is requested
must approve the transfer.
- All transfers are made on a
space-available basis. Schools who are at capacity will be identified
prior to the transfer period.
- Transfer students, who successfully
complete grade 5, grade 6 in a sixth grade center, or grade 8
and who wish to attend a middle or high school outside of their
attendance zone, must reapply for transfer to their home middle
or high school.
PROCEDURES FOR TRANSFER REQUEST
TO SCHOOLS AT CAPACITY ENROLLMENT
In the event a school has
reached capacity, the following procedures will apply:
- The principal will maintain
a waiting list at each school that is at capacity.
- No earlier than March 1, the
parent/guardian may place the student's name on the waiting list
at the school that is at capacity.
- After the student's name is
on the list, the parent/guardian should apply for the transfer
at the home school and complete regular transfer procedures.
- Decisions regarding transfers
to schools determined at capacity will be made no earlier than
April 1.
