Eleven FWISD
schools earn financial awards from the Texas Education Agency
Eleven Fort Worth ISD schools
have received financial awards from the Texas Education Agency
for meeting the criteria for outstanding performance as defined
in the Texas Successful Schools Award System. The schools were
recognized by the FWISD Board of Education and Supt. Thomas S.
Tocco at the April 10 school board meeting.
The schools are among 552 statewide receiving awards.
They were recognized for gains in student performance on indicators
that are part of the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS).
The recognition was based on spring 2000 performance on the Texas
Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) test, which measures performance
in reading, writing, and mathematics. Schools also had to meet
performance standards for dropout and attendance rates. The cash
awards, to be credited through the district's business office,
range from $2,300 to $5,000.
The award-winning schools are:
· Kirkpatrick Elementary School, Yadira Martinez, principal;
· Mitchell Boulevard Elementary School, Denise Davis,
principal;
· Natha Howell Elementary School, Cora Falk, principal;
· North Hi Mount Elementary School, Denise Rhodes, principal;
· Paschal High School, Sharon Meng, principal;
· Polytechnic High School, Joe Scott, principal;
· Ridglea Hills Elementary School, Jonna Murray, principal;
· Rufino Mendoza Sr. Elementary School, Irma Miller,
principal;
· Sagamore Hill Elementary School, Joseph Weber, principal;
· South Hills High School, Mary Jara Wright, principal
; and
· Versia Williams Elementary School, Susan Adcock, principal.
TSSAS award recipients are rated exemplary, recognized or acceptable
on the spring 2000 TAAS and were ranked in the top 25 percent
of all campuses that are in the same unique comparison statewide,
with respect to their growth in student performance in reading
and math. In addition, their exemption rate in TAAS reading,
math and writing could not be excessive for special education
or limited English Proficient students.
A total of $2.5 million is being awarded to schools this year
under TSSAS.
