The Advanced Academic Services
Department coordinates a variety of services offered to students
who achieve at high levels or who have the potential to do so.
All special interest programs (formerly called magnet) are managed through this department, as are gifted education, high academic program classes (HAP) in elementary schools, Pre-AP and Advanced Placement classes in secondary schools, and the AVID program on 21 secondary campuses.

Special Interest Programs Fair - Saturday, January 21, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at TCU
SIP Open Houses:
Elementary Schools - Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 6-7 p.m.
Middle Schools - Monday, Jan. 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
High Schools - Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Identification for Gifted
Services
Identification for gifted
services is based on multiple sources of data. These include
achievement and ability test score data, parent and teacher perception
surveys, and student performance as measured by a student portfolio.
Information on identification procedures is provided by each
school.
Special Interest Programs
Each special interest
program offers its own unique thematic or philosophical approach
to learning. All share a rigorous academic curriculum. Free transportation
is provided from central sites.
How to apply to a special
interest program
Brochures and applications
are available from the school office or Advanced Academic Services.
Because of supporting data required,
applications will not be accepted online. Completed applications
with all supporting data must be mailed or delivered to
Advanced Academic Services, 100 N. University Dr., Ste. NE226,
Fort Worth, Texas 76107 - no later than February 10, 2006.
- The deadline for applying to Special Interest Programs is Friday, February 10, 2006.
- Admission is based on a computerized random selection process and/or academic achievement.
- Acceptance letters will be mailed by Friday, March 10, 2006.
