Annual “College Night” Presents Hundreds of Higher Education Options
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Fort Worth ISD “College Night” is a veritable mall of educational opportunities, with 178 colleges, universities and institutions from around Texas and across the nation ready to recruit new students.
The Sept. 18 event at the Will Rogers Memorial Center will offer “one-stop shopping” for higher education by also providing financial aid workshops along with scholarship and college applications.
“Over the past 20 years, tens of thousands of students have been able to talk with school representatives and other experts to help make informed choices about their education,” said Dr. Anita Perry, Academic Advisement Coordinator for the Fort Worth ISD. “They literally set their college experience in motion at this event. Whatever our students aspire to, the possibilities for their future are as varied as the many participating schools.”
This year, an estimated 5,000 students and parents will once again attend. Invitations go to all FWISD high school students, as well as those attending parochial schools and surrounding districts.
In addition to meeting with school representatives, students and parents can participate in an informative “Financing a College Education” workshop. The programs will begin at 5:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. in the East Texas Room. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The programs are free and will be available in English and Spanish.
“The financial aspect of college is often the most daunting element,” said Dr. Perry. “It can be very overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. The seminars will address the most frequently asked questions and provide financial guidelines and tips for students and their parents. Things are more likely to go well by having a plan in place early enough.”
Students should plan to dress appropriately, using the District school dress code as a guide. Transportation will be available for those students planning to go directly from school. Buses will take students from their respective campuses and return them to school when the event is over.
FWISD “College Night” is Monday, Sept. 18, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Amon G. Carter, Jr. Exhibits Hall of the Will Rogers Memorial Center located at 3400 Burnett-Tandy Drive in Fort Worth.
