The following events occurred at the June 13 meeting of the Fort Worth Independent School District Board of Education

Personnel: Appointments/Reassignments of Principals and Assistant Principals

Consent Agenda:

The Board approved the consent agenda, including regular personnel; bids over $10,000; disbursements for April 2000; Interlocal Agreement with The University of Texas at Dallas; endorsement of candidate for Texas Association of School Boards Board of Trustees, District 11B; Waiver of Board Policy DBE (LOCAL) Regarding Employment of Related Party; First Reading, FNCG (LOCAL) Student Conduct: Weapons; TEA Accountability Ratings for Disciplinary Alternative Campuses; TEA Accountability Ratings for Non-Disciplinary Alternative Campuses; Education Service Center, Region XI, Contract for Services, 2000-2001; Education Service Center, Region XI, Principal Assessment Contract, 2000-2001; and naming of two buildings on existing facility site in District 8.

In other action, the Board:

  • adopted a resolution on condemnation of property which included (a) an offer of fair market value and (b) authorization to exercise the power of eminent domain if offer is denied, for the following properties:
    - 908 Parkdale Avenue;
    - 914 Parkdale Avenue;
  • approved the following purchase of two pieces of property at $81,000 for expanded facilities at William James Middle School (property locations: 2813 and 2847-49 Avenue B);
  • approved the following purchase of eleven (11) pieces of property at $265,300 for expanded facilities at Polytechnic High School (property locations: 809 and 901 South Beach St.; 816, 820, 901, 925, 930, 1001 and 1005 Parkdale Avenue).

Recognitions:

  • The Board accepted a $2,500 donation to the district from Gallagher Construction and Mrs. Minerva Serrano; designated for the HYPE program.
  • The Board honored winners of the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Scholarship program. Winners are: Crystal Alvarado, Riverside Middle School; Stephanie Cardenas, W.A. Meacham Middle School; Rubin Davila, J.P. Elder Middle School; Aracely De Hoyos, Rosemont Middle School; Esmeralda Duran, Riverside Middle School; Stephanie Duran, Leonard Middle School; Denice Guzman, Wedgwood Middle School; Dario Mendez, J.P. Elder Middle School; Judith Ozuna, J.P. Elder Middle School; Joe Sandoval, J.P. Elder Middle School; Elizabeth Saucedo, Riverside Middle School; and Brenda Vasquez, J.P. Elder Middle School.
  • The Board recognized Cynthia Casas, North Side High School and Jaime Munoz, Polytechnic High School who were awarded scholarships from the Hispanic Heritage Month committee.
  • The Board also recognized Luis Moreno, O.D. Wyatt High School, as the recipient of the American Association of School Administrators/Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship for Texas in the Arts and Humanities category.
  • The Board honored Ms. Maurine Howard as this year's recipient of the Fort Worth ISD Harriet Griffin Human Relations Award.

The Board also heard a report concerning:

  • Stephen Fortenberry, chief financial officer, presented an update on 2000-2001 Budget Development;
  • Dane Adkinson and Mary Regan, TASB Personnel Services Consultants, presented the Salary Study and Compensation Plan for Administrative/Professional and Auxiliary Employees;
  • Polly Stringfield, program director, health/PE, Vivian Smith, program director, guidance and counseling, and Roy Griffin, coordinator, ID&LE/SDFSC presented a report on conflict resolution approaches and results in the FWISD.

Community Forums will begin at the start of the 2000-2001 school year.
