The mission of the Fort Worth ISD Social Studies Department is to empower all students to become participating citizens with knowledge, skills and attitudes enabling them to make informed decisions in a culturally diverse and interdependent world.

>> FWISD Social Studies Department is Awarded Teaching American History Grant

On August 3, 2010, the Department of Education awarded the Fort Worth ISD Social Studies department its fourth $1,000,000 dollar Teaching American History grant since 2002. Being the only Teaching American History grant presented in the state of Texas for 2010, Project HOPE (History Opening Paths to Excellence) will fund various professional development opportunities for 5th, 8th and 11th grade teachers of American History as well as other Social Studies teachers throughout the district. Keep checking the Social Studies website for future updates about becoming a grant teacher and attending HOPE training sessions.

The workshop is open to all middle and high school social studies, language arts, and humanities teachers. Priority consideration will be given to middle school teachers in their first two years of teaching.
