Intervention Services

While we know that school is the most important event in a child’s life, there are many additional events occurring simultaneously with education. Sometimes, these other life events impact a student’s ability to achieve his or her academic potential. To better support students during such times, Intervention Services are available.

The purpose of Intervention Services is to enhance student academic achievement by delivering programs and services that address the behavioral, emotional, and social needs of students. Our focus is on students at the secondary level who are experiencing difficulties either within or outside of the school campus. Our intent is to help students develop coping strategies and solutions that enable them to return to a healthy level of functioning in life and to improve performance in the classroom.

Each Fort Worth ISD 6th Grade center, middle school and high school has one full-time, dedicated Interventionist to address the social, emotional and behavioral needs of students. Services include the following:

  • Psycho-education through individual and group counseling
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Peer Mediation
  • Social Skills Instruction
  • Life Skills Instruction
  • Leadership Development
  • Consultation
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Limited case management and/or home visits
  • Transitional support for returning students
  • Staff Development
  • Student retreats
  • Participation on leadership teams, RtI teams, etc.

New this year is the opportunity to provide services at the elementary school level.  We have 2 fulltime Intervention Specialists assigned to the district alternative educational placement (DAEP) unit at De Zavala Elementary.  Staff there fulfill very similar functions but are focused on a more specific student population. Elementary Students from across the district attend the DAEP as assigned following a mandatory offense. There is a strong focus on equipping students with a successful transition back to their home campus and reducing the opportunities for recidivism.  Staff provides support to the instructional staff and assists the school counselor with prevention efforts.

OurOur staff includes professionals with education and experience in the areas of social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, prevention, and chemical dependency. Most are licensed and/or certified in their areas of expertise. They work closely with school personnel, as an important member of each campus’ team.  Feel free to contact the Interventionist assigned to your child’s campus with any questions or concerns. A list for each with their email is provided for you below:
