Frequently Asked Questions - Elementary Boundary Changes

The following are questions answered at boundary meetings held in the Spring of 2011 regarding the following elementary schools:

Eastern Hills, Meadowbrook, Lowery Rd., Sagamore Hill, Atwood McDonald, East Handley, John T. White, Alice Contreras, R.J. Wilson, South Hills, Seminary Hills Park, Hubbard Heights, Rosemont.

  1. Why is the District adjusting some school attendance boundaries?
The District is rezoning school attendance boundaries in an effort to most efficiently use District-owned facilities and enhance the educational opportunities for each of our students. This rezoning will alleviate overcrowding in some schools and maximize space in under-utilized schools.
  2. Which students will be assigned to new schools?
Students who reside at specific street addresses within each school attendance zone will be impacted. You can find out what school your child will attend by using the new School Locator tool.
  3. Will bus transportation be provided for students who are affected by the new attendance boundary?
Current transportation rules will continue to apply to all students. Students who live outside a 2 mile radius of their designated school or live on a route designated by the District to be hazardous will be provided transportation. The District is currently analyzing transportation routes and further information will be provided to parents prior to the start of school.
  4. Can my child transfer back to the current campus if I do not want him/her to attend the newly designated school?
No, transfers back to the current campus will not be allowed for a two-year period.
  5. Can my child transfer to a school that is not affected by the boundary changes?
All transfers to schools outside this attendance zone will be considered in accordance with District policy (FDB Local). However, transfers will not be allowed for two years to any of the schools listed above.

Transfers to these elementary schools are frozen for one more year (2011-2012):  Washington Heights, Helbing, Diamond Hill, Cesar Chavez, M.H. Moore, J.T. Stevens, Woodway, Bruce Shulkey, Hazel Harvey Peace, W.M. Green, Glen Park, Oaklawn, D. McRae, S.S. Dillow, Sunrise-McMillan, Western Hills Primary, Western Hills Elementary.
