Special Education

Mission: The Special Education Department in conjunction with the District's statement of Philosophy and Commitment supports the District's focus on academic achievement and/or vocational training for all students.

The department embraces the District's emphasis on a system which combines a sound academic program with career exploration and preparation components to serve all students. The department will use district curriculum, when appropriate, to support the District's primary focus on reading, mathematics, English language arts, social studies and science. The department will provide support in the delivery of all services as determined by an Admission, Review, or Dismissal (ARD) Committee and as stated in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.

General Information:

Each FWISD campus provides special education instructional support for special education students based on student need. Instructional services may be either direct to the student or consultation services to assist the teacher.

Most students in FWISD attend the school closest to their home. Schools provide all or most services in the general education classroom or in small special learning groups for a part of their day with specialized staff.
