Fort Worth, Texas – The next president of the Fort Worth Independent School District Board of Education will be decided in a run-off election.
At the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, Trustees are expected to declare the run-off election date as Saturday, June 14, 2008. Early voting should be scheduled for June 2- June 10, 2008. Ray Dickerson will face Chris Hatch in the run-off.
Ballots from the May 10th election cannot be officially canvassed until after a state-imposed May 15th deadline for receiving overseas ballots. The Tarrant County Elections office indicates that they anticipate having the canvass of the votes completed late on the evening of Friday, May 16th. But in order for the FWISD to comply with election laws the Board must set the runoff date now. On Tuesday, May 20th, the Fort Worth ISD Board will officially certify the canvass and a ballot position drawing for the run-off may be conducted at that time. Carlos Vasquez is expected to be certified as the winner of the District 1 election at that time.
Fort Worth ISD will not be sharing the cost of the run-off election with other governmental jurisdictions. Therefore, the District must reduce the number of early voting and election day polling places to the number used in the last district-wide election. By doing so FWISD can save over $400,000.
The Resolution and Order, containing polling locations and times, is included with this news release as a separate attachment.
