Fort Worth ISD Makes Breakfast
for Square Meals Fun Run

Fort Worth ISD’s Child Nutrition Services will serve a healthy breakfast to runners/walkers following the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Square Meals Fun Run on September 15, 2007.

Immediately following the 1K Fun Run and the 5K Run/Walk Fort Worth ISD Child Nutrition Services workers will hand out a healthy and delicious breakfast to all participants. About 500 runners/walkers are expected to take part in the event

On the menu will be fruit juices, bagels, yogurt, fruit cups and breakfast tacos that include low-fat turkey sausage. Eight FWISD employees will be working to prepare, deliver and serve the Texas sized breakfast at the conclusion of the race in the Back Forty section of the Fort Worth Stockyards.

The Square Meals Fun Run is a part of TDA’s 100th anniversary celebration. Square Meals is a school nutrition and outreach program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Victor Lopez, Assistant Director of the district’s Child Nutrition Services says serving 500 people is a “piece of cake”. “We have schools that regularly serve 700-800 students on a daily basis, so serving 500 will be no problem at all”, he says.
