Safety Program

Under the supervision of the FWISD CIP’s  Senior Officer for Design and Construction our staff monitors the implementation of the FWISD CIP Safety Manual and of the safety strategies created to ensure the highest safety standards are in place in all of our projects.

Prior to the award of CIP work, all contractors are evaluated on the quality and results of their safety programs in previous similar projects. The safety category represents 5% of the overall evaluation scoring.

In addition, all construction sites are monitored regularly for compliance with applicable safety requirements.

The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) is committed to providing a safe, productive and fun learning environment for teachers, staff, students and parents.

Safety is of critical importance for the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), as we strive to implement safe and orderly construction projects to improve our existing schools and build new facilities, per the mandate in the 2007 bond election.

SAFETY IS TOP PRIORITY!

The FWISD CIP has developed a culture that promotes an injury-free environment and supports the safest workplace for all. Our staff is committed and dedicated to elevating the standards for safety in school construction.

  • Safety Orientations are conducted by CIP safety staff to ensure all construction workers have received safety guidelines specific to FWISD prior to starting the work.
  • Construction workers must wear badges while on site.  Badges are issued after the individual has successfully passed the background check and drug testing performed by a state qualified vendor.
  • Upon request, FWISD CIP Safety staff visit school and PTA meetings to raise awareness and present child safety measures in the CIP Safety Program.
  • FWISD CIP and Project Managers host site meetings with school principals and school staff to keep them informed on the progress of renovations and construction, safety procedures, phasing plans etc.
  • FWISD CIP Safety staff conducts Site Safety Observations to monitor compliance with the safety requirements.
