Nonresident parents may apply for tuition reductionParents who are nonresidents of the district have begun the process to apply for tuition discounts for the next school year. Nonresident students are accepted on a space-available basis. Tuition discounts are available in April only and are especially favorable for employee nonresidents. Karen Borta to emcee Partnership DinnerKTVT Ch. 11 news anchor Karen Borta will emcee the Partnership Dinner from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 30, at the Round Up Inn. Approximately 500 business partners and their school liaisons will attend; outstanding partnerships will be presented $8,750 in awards. Auto technology programs receive donationsThe Ford Motor Company, through Hillard Auto Mall, has donated a 2001 model Lincoln sedan to the automotive technology program at Trimble Tech High School. Chrysler Motor Company has donated a 2000 Dodge 2500 pickup to the automotive technology program at O.D. Wyatt High School. The vehicles are used for educational purposes. Earlier, Chrysler and General Motors donated vehicles to each of the automotive programs. Prekindergarten enrollment accepted in AprilSchools with prekindergarten classes will enroll students for the next school year in April. To be eligible, children must qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, be unable to speak or comprehend English or be homeless. They must also be four years old before September 1 and reside within FWISD boundaries. Advertisements alert readers to new SIP programsAdvertisements in several newspapers are announcing openings for the recently approved special interest programs (SIP) at Trimble Tech High School and Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School. Because openings are available at several other SIP programs, the SIP application deadline has been extended to April 16. Selection process for Vital Link teacher supervisorsThe selection process for summer Vital Link teacher supervisors is nearing completion. Student applications are now being accepted from FWISD sixth-graders. Teacher supervisors accompany students on one-week internships to area businesses and help students and business mentors gain maximum benefit from the experience. Improved attendance, positive/helpful feedback marks professional development conferenceApproximately 4,100 professional staff attended the March 2 Conference on Teaching and Learning. Donating technology-related door prizes were Data Projection, Gateway, Executrain, IBM, Southwestern Bell and Dell. Winners were teachers Michelle Nedd, W.M. Application deadline is 4 p.m. May 11. 32 students win 1st place as district/area Career & Technology Leadership winnersOf 75 students from nine high schools competing in Career and Technology Leadership events for four organizations, 32 won first place at the district or area level and 59 were eligible to continue in state contests. In competition completed so far, four are now eligible to compete nationally. They are Sonia Serrano and Tim Cannon, Trimble Technical; Adriana Marquez, Paschal; and Chris Hunter, O.D. Wyatt. Retirees honored at dinnerMore than 420 employees and guests were honored during the April 5 retirement dinner. The festive evening celebrated a combined total of 4,343 years of service to FWISD children. 7th Conference on Education of Hispanics plannedFive hundred teachers have registered
for the 7th annual Conference on the Education of Hispanics on
April 28 at Texas Christian University; there are no vacancies.
Ninety percent of the proceeds will go to the Mexican American
College Education (MACE) Fund. Sponsors include the Fort Worth
Association for Bilingual Education and the Texas Association
of Hispanic School Administrators-Fort Worth Chapter in conjunction
