Academic Sweatshirt Scholar Program Honors Student Excellence

Summary: The Fort Worth ISD and Lockheed Martin awarded over 700 Academic Sweatshirts to deserving students on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Fort Worth Convention Center Ballroom.

In the past two decades, FWISD has recognized more than 5,000 students for academic excellence through the Academic Sweatshirt Scholar program. The program, now in its 23rd year, was created to acknowledge students who complete their sophomore year with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Students who earn the Academic Sweatshirt Scholar distinction receive a special sweatshirt that features the initials of the student’s school, the academic banner, and the student’s monogram on the sleeve.

While the program began in 1989 recognizing just over 100 students, this year 698 students will be honored.
